SD-26/100 TOURIST SUBMARINE
Hull Material: Steel | Year Built: Refurbished 2013-14 | Length (m): 13m |
The submarine is capable of transporting 24 passengers and 2 crew members to depths of 100 meters.
The pressure hull is a cylindrical structure with hemispherical ends and two entrance towers. The pressure hull is divided into three compartments:
Pilot compartment
Passenger compartment
Engine room
The pilot compartment is fitted with one 1000 mm hemispherical viewport for pilot use.
The passenger compartment is fitted with 12 viewports, 600 mm each. Entrance ways are located in the opposite ends of the passenger compartment. The aft entrance being the main, primary means of access/egress & the fwd entrance is the emergency access/egress.
The hull is constructed from DnV classified steel grade NVE or equivalent. All hull welds are 100% NDT tested. The customer will receive material inspection reports and certificates.
The pressure hull resists the hydrostatic forces imposed by seawater and isolates the occupants from the external environment. The pressure hull is a steel cylindrical section mated to a forward steel hemisphere with integrated spherical sector viewport, and also joined to an aft hemispherical steel section.
The SD-26 was designed to provide passengers with a comfortable environment from which to view the subsea world, and the degree of comfort and the quality of the view are obviously critical to passenger acceptance of the vehicle and the experience as a whole. The 2100 mm passenger compartment diameter is considerably more spacious than any comparably sized tourist submarine. In addition, the side viewports are the largest in the industry. The overall effect is one of spacious comfort.
The submarine has a fully hydraulic propulsion system. The main forward/aft control is done with two main thruster units situated in aft end of the vessel. The lateral thruster unit is placed at bow above the pilot's viewport. The vertical control is achieved with one thruster fitted in the bow.
The hydraulic system is fully pressure compensated thus following the changes of the external pressure. The tank is mounted outside the pressure hull. The hydraulic power pack and valve block is located in the engine room. The power unit is mounted on vibration dampers and connected with flexible hoses to the system. This will ensure that the noise level is acceptable in the passenger compartment
Maneuvering is intuitively accomplished through a single proportional joystick control.
