The First 30-ton AC Converter Adjusting Speed Overhead Locomotive in China.

AC frequency mode is transforming unsteady DC in trolley wire into frequency adjustable three-phase AC via high-power IGBT element to drive the AC frequency motor to pull and adjust speed. Due to the advanced vector control technique, AC frequency motor may realize a pull-in torque and pulling force the same as DC motor's which makes the vehicle start strongly with heavy load. Compared with traditional DC locomotive, AC motor and master controller are more durable, and the mechanical energy generated during the break can be changed into electric energy and return to the grid.
